Lieutenant Seattle Police Department (Ret.)

Jessica Taylor is a steadfast advocate for truth, integrity, and the well-being of her community. Her journey commenced in 1998 when she joined the ranks of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) following years of honing her skills as an NSCA personal trainer. During her remarkable 23-year tenure within SPD, Jessica ascended through the ranks, proudly serving as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant. Yet, she was more than just a dedicated officer; she was a tireless champion for transparency and honesty within the force.

Jessica's retirement on August 1, 2023, marked a poignant moment as she penned an insightful farewell letter to SPD's leadership. Her intention was never to burn bridges but to illuminate the path toward a police department that embraces openness and transparency, benefiting both its officers and the citizens it serves.

One of Jessica's standout areas of expertise lay in Use of Force investigations, a critical component in maintaining the highest standards in law enforcement. Her unyielding commitment to justice and accountability in this sphere became a defining feature of her career.

Beyond her service in the police department, Jessica dedicated countless hours to her cherished community. She volunteered tirelessly with organizations such as Special Olympics, the American Lung Association, Multiple Myeloma, St. Jude's and many more non-profits. Her dedication extended even further as she personally invested her time in supporting the homeless population, tirelessly working to enhance the lives of those in need within her community.

However, the demands of the job took a toll on Jessica. She courageously battled Trigeminal Neuralgia, a chronic disorder causing severe facial pain. Despite her health challenges, Jessica found herself sidelined due to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, even as the department grappled with severe understaffing. Submitting her resignation was a bittersweet moment, for her love for the city and her commitment to aiding others, especially the homeless and Special Olympics athletes, remained deeply ingrained.

Jessica's unwavering dedication did not go unnoticed. She received the Patriot Award from the National Guard, a recognition bestowed upon supervisors who go above and beyond to support National Guard soldiers.

Jessica's philosophy is simple yet profound: "At the end of the day, all you have is your integrity. I choose to stand up for what I believe in, even if I stand alone."
